Interior shade and energy curtains for greenhouses offer a myriad of options to manage and fine-tune your greenhouse environment.

They assist with light management, cooling/shading, heat retention, and more. You can use a dual curtain system as well to reduce energy consumption and enhance greenhouse performance.

Greenhouse curtains come in various synthetic materials, such as knitted polyester, polyolefin (a type of polymer or plastic derived from simple hydrocarbons, such as ethylene and propylene), polyethylene, aluminum, and acrylics.

Combinations of different fibers or fabrics integrated into a screen give it different properties useful for greenhouse applications such as light diffusion, moisture control, porosity, or fire resistance.

Curtains also come in different patterns (alternating strips) that play an important role in their functionality for shading, energy conservation, light deprivation, and ventilation.

While many options exist for greenhouse curtains, you must determine the right blend of curtain type, materials, and configuration for your specific greenhouse and your crop needs to use screens effectively. We can help with that. Contact us today!

Almost any greenhouse can accommodate greenhouse curtain systems in different configurations, although the difficulty of installation varies with the type and age of your greenhouse.

Growers have the option of using a single layer of screens or employing a double-screen system.

Two curtain systems are common for greenhouse use:

  • Gutter-to-gutter: Flat screening with no slope extends across the width of the greenhouse at gutter height.
  • Truss-to-truss: Screening expands down the length of the greenhouse between the trusses, with panels divided into sections.

Three configurations work with truss-to-truss systems:

  • Flat at gutter height: Screening material runs gutter-to-gutter with no slope to it.
  • Slope-slope: Starting at gutter height, the screening runs parallel to the roof up to the truss peak and then down the other side to the opposite gutter. Curtains open lengthwise.
  • Slope-flat-slope: Screening runs parallel to the sloped parts of the greenhouse roof partway up. A flat section joins them in the center. The bottom truss chord remains free. Curtains open lengthwise from truss to truss.
